Royal Palms is a 1,200 sq ft seaside residence in Goa that reimagines old-world colonial grandeur for contemporary coastal living. Conceived by Contours — The Design Co., the home layers rich walnut panelling, hand-tufted leather, crystal and brass lighting, and silk soft furnishings into an atmosphere of warm, lived-in luxury. Jewel-toned foyers — one deep navy, one emerald green — set a dramatic prelude, opening into living spaces where gilded artwork, Regency cane chairs and Chesterfield seating frame uninterrupted views of swaying palms. From the carved four-poster bed to the green-marble bath, every surface celebrates craftsmanship — creating a timeless retreat that feels both grand and intimately personal.

At Royal Palms in Goa, Contours — The Design Co. set out to create something increasingly rare: a home that wears its luxury quietly, the way an old family residence accumulates character over generations. Spanning 1,200 square feet, this seaside apartment was conceived not as a showcase of trends but as a warm, enveloping retreat — a place where colonial-era grandeur is softened into something genuinely livable.
The journey begins at the threshold. Two jewel-box foyers set the tone — one wrapped in deep lacquered blue with a brass chandelier and antique lanterns, the other a glowing emerald green crowned by a Gothic arched mirror and a green cut-crystal chandelier. Gilt-framed artwork — including a luminous golden portrait — establishes the home’s language of craftsmanship and curation before a single room is entered.
Beyond, the living spaces open into an atmosphere of restrained opulence. Floor-to-ceiling walnut paneling and polished timber ceilings give the rooms a cocooning warmth, while concealed cove lighting and crystal chandeliers keep the mood luminous rather than heavy. The furniture vocabulary is deliberately eclectic: button-tufted leather Chesterfield seating in cognac and chocolate, Regency cane-back chairs upholstered in forest-green leather, and a generous leather ottoman anchoring a lounge crowned by a sculptural circular mirror. Brass accents — table lamps, sconces, a tripod spotlight, planters — punctuate the timber and leather with a soft metallic glow.

Texture and contrast carry the scheme. Champagne silk drapery edged in green frames windows that look out over the swaying palms that give the project its name, tying the interior’s richness back to its tropical setting. Patterned wool and jute rugs ground the polished floors, while carefully chosen art — Dutch-inspired florals, moody seascapes, gilded portraits — lends each wall a collected, gallery-like sensibility.
The master bedroom is perhaps the fullest expression of the home’s spirit. A carved timber four-poster bed sits against fully panelled walls beneath a polished wood ceiling, flanked by green-glass lamps and crystal sconces. A tufted tan-leather bench at the foot of the bed and a pair of green leather wingback chairs complete a space that feels equal parts heritage hotel suite and private sanctuary. Even the utilitarian rooms are dressed to match — a powder room sheathed in green marble with antique-brass sconces, and a crisp galley kitchen where glazed green tile meets shaker cabinetry and brass hardware.
Throughout, Contours’ signature approach is evident: a context-first sensibility that blends global design references with local warmth, executed with precision and an unmistakable artistic hand. Materials are honest and tactile — solid walnut, genuine leather, crystal, brass, silk — and detailing stays consistent from the cornices to the door hardware. The result is a residence that does not chase the moment but feels timeless: grand in its ambition, intimate in its experience, and deeply personal to those who live within it.
