Polo Orchid Resort & Spa
A Luxury Cliffside Retreat in Cherrapunjee

Nestled amidst the dramatic cliffs and mist-laden landscapes of Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya, Polo Orchid Resort & Spa is envisioned as an immersive hospitality destination where architecture, interiors, and nature coexist in harmony. Designed to celebrate its breathtaking setting, the project offers a luxurious retreat that seamlessly integrates wellness, comfort, and panoramic views into a singular architectural experience.

The design philosophy revolves around creating spaces that enhance the guest's connection with the surrounding landscape. Rather than dominating the site, the architecture responds sensitively to the natural terrain, allowing the built form to blend effortlessly into the hillside while framing uninterrupted views of the valleys and the iconic Seven Sisters Waterfall.

Architecture & Site Response
Respecting the site's extraordinary topography, the architecture follows the natural contours of the cliff, minimizing excavation and preserving the integrity of the landscape. The result is a built form that appears to emerge organically from the hillside, creating a seamless dialogue between the resort and its environment.

Interior Design Language
The interiors present a sophisticated blend of Indo-Chinese influences, interpreted through contemporary hospitality design. Rich timber detailing, handcrafted furniture, natural stone surfaces, patterned flooring, and warm material palettes create spaces that are elegant, timeless, and deeply rooted in regional character.

Material Palette
Natural materials play a central role throughout the project. Timber, stone, handcrafted finishes, decorative tiles, and textured surfaces establish warmth and authenticity while complementing the surrounding landscape. The carefully curated palette reflects both luxury and local craftsmanship.
Bringing Nature Indoors
Large floor-to-ceiling glazing transforms every room into a visual extension of the outdoors. Constantly changing views of mist, rainfall, forests, and waterfalls become an integral part of the interior experience, while abundant natural light reinforces the seamless connection between architecture and nature.
Sustainability & Context
Environmental sensitivity informs every design decision. By adapting to the site's natural contours, minimizing landscape disturbance, maximizing natural light and ventilation, and utilizing locally sourced materials wherever possible, the project demonstrates a responsible approach to contemporary luxury hospitality.

Project Conclusion
Polo Orchid Resort & Spa establishes a new benchmark for experiential hospitality in Northeast India. Through contextual architecture, thoughtfully crafted interiors, and immersive wellness experiences, the resort celebrates the remarkable beauty of Cherrapunjee while redefining luxury as a meaningful connection with place, landscape, and craftsmanship.
