Situated in the vibrant city of Pune, where tradition intertwines with modernity, Jade, an exquisite home stands as an ode to thoughtful design and personal expression. Pune, known for its rich cultural heritage, lush greenery, and thriving cosmopolitan atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop for a residence that embodies both comfort and vibrancy. Amidst the bustling urban landscape, Jade emerges as a sanctuary for a spirited couple in their seventies, along with their beloved nonagenarian mother.
Having grown weary of the standard white and ivory palettes that characterised their previous homes, they craved a vibrant environment that is alive with colour and personality. In their quest to break free from the constraints of their whitewashed past, the couple, together with their design team, boldly embraced a monochromatic yet daring aesthetic. This home became a canvas infused with vibrant, soothing hues—an approach that had never before been explored by the designer. Each room is thoughtfully appointed with a unique colour treatment, tailored to evoke comfort and a sense of belonging.
One of the most significant considerations in Jade is the thoughtful design of the 90-year-old mother’s bedroom. This space is crafted to evoke a warm, cottage-like ambience, featuring elegant moulding along the walls and a soft yellow backdrop. Additionally, the client’s affinity for patterns presented another challenge; she wished to incorporate various prints into the decor. The design team navigated this desire by skillfully blending bold prints with a cohesive design, utilising subtle pinstripes on the walls and complementing them with carefully chosen patterned upholstery and bed linens. Furniture choices were also tailored to meet her needs, with rounded edges to minimise sharp corners and easy access to essentials like drawers and bedside tables. The result is a room that balances vibrancy with practicality, ensuring her daily life is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

Another standout area is the study, a sanctuary where comfort and functionality coexist. Tailored for a client who spends extensive hours working from home, this room boasts blackout curtains and custom niches for books and files, making it an ideal space for productivity. The centrepiece of the study, a meticulously crafted table from Lakadhara, embodies functionality wrapped in an elegant design. The kitchen of this home serves as both a functional space and a heartwarming gathering area. With a blend of modernity and warmth, the kitchen, dipped in hues of Green reflects Siddhina's commitment to creating spaces that resonate with personal stories and family traditions. Sleek, contemporary cabinetry provides ample storage while maintaining a clean and streamlined look. The countertops, made from high-quality materials, offer both durability and beauty, allowing for effortless meal preparation and entertaining.
Navigating the design process presented its own set of challenges. With clients who were particular about everything from colours to prints, the journey involved multiple iterations to align visions. Additionally, gold accents were initially integral to the client’s vision; however, through thoughtful discussions, it was decided to introduce these elements subtly—through bespoke touches like delicate gold accents on the ceiling and tasteful stickers—adding elegance without overwhelming the overall aesthetic. The recurring challenge of balancing style with practicality resonates throughout the home. For instance, the living room’s curtains were selected and styled with custom tie-backs sourced from a particular vendor, achieving both visual appeal and functional ease.
At the core of this design is a rich narrative of personalisation. Noteworthy is how the home's history and the clients’ journey have been intricately woven into its design. For instance, the air conditioning challenge—an issue familiar to many homeowners—was approached with a blend of engineering savvy and artistic flair. Given that the developer had installed the AC sleeves at an inconvenient height, a niche has been ingeniously created to house the units, avoiding unsightly bulkheads. This solution not only preserved the room’s clean lines but also integrated seamlessly into the overall aesthetic, ensuring that every element felt deliberate and harmonious.

What truly distinguishes this home is the thoughtful integration of heirloom pieces that reflect the client's personal histories. A cherished 50-year-old armchair, gifted by the homeowner’s mother during her wedding, is lovingly reupholstered to fit the home's updated colour scheme, preserving its sentimental value. This armchair finds its place beside a reading nook that proudly holds over 1,000 carefully curated books, serving both as a design statement and a tribute to the homeowner’s rich personal narrative.
“Thanks to The Arch Studio for designing our vision into beautiful cosiness that balances well with modernity. Our house feels like a warm hug, just what we wanted.
